Growing Practices

As the Farmer of Skip’s Place, I believe in providing you high quality, nutritious, fresh, seasonal, local veggies that are good for your mind, body, and soul. I believe in empowering people to feel connected to their food and their farmer. And I believe in giving back to the land. As a result, I place a high importance on sustainable growing practices which include but are not limited to:

  • Honesty with all customers about all farm practices.
  • No use of synthetic/non OMRI approved fertilizers, pesticides, or GMO seed.
  • Use of crop rotation and careful seed selection for disease prevention.
  • Use of physical barriers/early crop damage identification for pest management.
  • Use of organic seeds whenever possible. *Skip's Place is not yet organic certified (as this takes some time), but  is presently working towards this certification.
  • All soil additives and pest control substances (used only when vital to the survival of the crop) are from the OMRI approved list if substances- which is the list of allowed substances by the organic certifying agencies.
  • Multiple varieties of a crop are planted for season coverage/crop loss prevention.
  • Detailed seeding/planting records are kept and maintained for health tracking and soil nutrient management for subsequent years.

DONT BE AFRAID OF A FEW HOLES:

Because I try to meddle as little as possible with the amazing processes nature has already perfected, sometimes there may be a few hole-y leaves here and there.  But rest assured that you can confidently eat these hole-y leaves knowing they have been untouched by harmful substances.  Theses roots, fruits, leaves, and veggies are just as beautiful and nutritious as any other.  Think of it as natures quality control- some little creature had a tiny snack and very much approved!
